The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting aerial shooting operations for all feral animals in Kosciuszko National Park. Horses will not be controlled in wild horse retention management areas as part of this operation.
This program is scheduled between Tuesday 10 and Monday 30 June 2025 inclusive. During this period the areas described below, and on the attached map will be closed to the public and all park users. This includes all tracks, trails, campgrounds, huts, picnic areas and accommodation nodes within the closed operational area.
If you have any guests visiting your property during this period, please also advise them of the closed areas of the park for this program.
Northern Kosciuszko NP
Areas Closed:
- Areas to the north-east of the Snowy Mountains Highway through to the northern boundary of KNP. This includes the Bimberi, Goobarragandra, Bramina and Bogong Peaks Wilderness areas, the northern Kosciuszko High Plains and adjacent areas of park.
Central Kosciuszko NP
Areas Closed:
- Areas south of the Snowy Mountains Highway including the Happy Jacks and Tolbar areas, the Jagungal Wilderness Area and the Gungharlin River Camping Area.
- The Jagumba, Tooma, Yellow Bog and Dargals areas on the north and south of the Swampy Plains – Tooma – Cabramurra Road.
- The Australian Alps Walking Track between Guthega Power Station and the NSW / ACT border.
- The National Trail between Round Flat and Khancoban, and Khancoban and the park boundary east of Mt Morgan.
- The Hume and Hovell Walking Track between the Goobarragandra Rd and Boundary Rd
Areas to remain open:
- Access to and operation of Selwyn Ski Resort, Cabramurra township and Yarrangobilly Caves precinct will not be affected.
- Visitor facilities and areas adjacent to the Snowy Mountains Highway including Denison Campground, Alpine Creek Picnic Area, Delaneys Hut, Sawyers Hill Resthouse, Kiandra Courthouse, Three Mile Dam, Yarrangobilly Village Campground, Black Perry Lookout, Jounama Creek Campground, and Blowering Foreshore campgrounds and facilities will remain open.
