Cooktown to Gunnawarra

Section 01Cooktown to Gunnawarra

History and tropical beauty come together in this very demanding and remote section, starting in Cooktown, where Captain Cook beached the Endeavour in 1770.

The Trail heads south through the tropical rainforests of Cedar Bay National Park, Daintree, and Mossman, before turning west into harsh, dry inland areas.

Recommended travel: Dry season (April – October), as many rivers and creeks are impassable during the wet. Be aware of crocodiles and limited water in inland areas.
